In the early hours of Tuesday, a hillside landslide struck behind an eight-storey building in Mumbai’s Andheri area, prompting authorities to swiftly evacuate residents from the structure, according to civic officials.
Thankfully, there were no reported injuries in the incident. The police control room alerted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation about the landslide behind the Ram Baug Cooperative Housing Society on Mahakali Road in Andheri (East) at approximately 2 am, as stated by the officials.
The landslide caused soil and stones to fall from the hill area located behind the building, which comprises 168 rooms. Due to safety concerns, the building’s evacuation process was initiated, as confirmed by a civic official. Police, ward staff, and the fire brigade were immediately mobilized to respond to the situation.
As a precautionary measure, two fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to the spot. Authorities are actively managing the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents and the surrounding area.
