Digital X-Ray Information

X-Ray is a potent imaging test that has been an integral aspect of radiography. Using this examination, doctors get an accurate and highly detailed images especially of the bones. Since the examination involves ionising radiation, there are certain risks involved. As the risk of harm from radiation in adults is minimal and balanced than an unborn child, the radiographer may advise a substitute test to pregnant female patients.

X-Ray Process

Preparation

An X-ray scan is an imaging method, in which a specialized equipment sends ionised radiations across the body. When these radiations pass through the body, different internal structures tend to absorb them differently that produces superior quality images.

It is a relatively simple, quick and painless procedure that does not require any prior preparation. For the appointment, doctors or radiographers recommend wearing loose clothes, and avoiding jewellery or any accessories that contain metals, as these have to be removed before the scan.

Since some body parts are sensitive to radiation, they may be protected using a shield. However, the area that must be examined will be exposed to the X-ray equipment, while the rest may remain covered.

Some of the common types of x-ray scans are:

  • Chest X-Ray
  • Abdominal X-Ray
  • Neck X-Ray
  • Joint X-Ray
  • Lumbar Spine X-Ray
  • Kidney, Bladder & Uterus X-Ray
  • Skull X-Ray
  • Full-Body X-Ray

Procedure

At Avicenna Clinic, x-ray procedures are performed by trained specialists using modern digitised equipment and instruments. Depending on the type of x-ray scan, the patients are asked to stand or lie down as a large camera captures an x-ray image.

The entire procedure is quick. However, in complex cases, it may take longer, based on factors such as the body parts that have to be examined, patients’ ability to move, their age and general well-being.

Whilst x-ray themselves are painless, but if the test is recommended for the diagnosis of a painful condition like a fracture, then patients may experience a certain level of discomfort during the examination.

Imaging

Upon completion of the X-ray imaging, healthy patients are allowed to go back to their homes. Later, the images are interpreted by the radiologist for preparing the test reports. We provide the X-ray reports within 48 hours or on the same day.
